Our Minds Are Rarely Where Are Bodies Are

How are you feeling?

No, honestly, how are you feeling right now?
What kind of thoughts are running through your head?

Now look up...where are you?
What's going on around you?
Without judgment, just observe.

Take a moment...can you feel the chair beneath you?
The keyboard beneath your finger tips?
The phone in your hand?

Close your eyes and take 3 long, deep breaths...can you feel the breath entering and exiting the body?

We practice cultivating awareness on the cushion in order to become more aware moment to moment in the world we experience off of the cushion.

Reality is, our minds are rarely where our bodies are.

When we look within, we can see that how we feel is determined by what we're thinking, and these thoughts are always of the past or future...always.  In order to become present, we can derail these trains of thought through the use our senses of touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing.

How so?

By simply feeling, smelling, tasting, seeing, or hearing what's really happening, with nothing added, no commentary, just experiencing the experience as it is.

Again...can you feel the chair beneath you?
The keyboard beneath your finger tips?
The phone in your hand?

Close your eyes and take 3 long, deep breaths...can you feel the breath entering and exiting the body?

Now how are you feeling?
